Office lockouts: what to do and how to prevent the next
A lockout at work costs more than one at home: staff waiting outside, customers at the door. Here is how to handle it, and how to make it rare.
- Dispatch across Tucson and Pima County
- Starting prices published
- All major credit cards
Usual causes
Keys left at home. A cylinder worn smooth by years of use. A key that snaps off. A keypad code nobody wrote down, or a fob that stopped working.
Don't force it
Commercial doors and frames resist force. Prying usually costs more to repair than the lockout call.
What the locksmith does
Opens the door with the least damage, then fixes the cause: a new cylinder, a rekey, a repaired latch. See business locks for master keys and panic bars.
Preventing the next one
Keep a signed key log. Leave a spare with a manager. Rekey when someone leaves with a key. Replace stiff cylinders before they fail. Dust is a real enemy here: a sticky cylinder in a desert storefront is a warning, not a quirk.
